How do I connect a CRM contact to a project?

For office teams · Updated October 26, 2026

Use this when an adjuster, referrer or trade partner is involved in a project and should show on it and on their CRM record.

Contacts and customers stay separate

A CRM contact never turns into a customer. The homeowner or insured is the customer; CRM contacts are linked to the customer's project with a role.

Add a person to a project

  1. Open the customer and go to the Project tab.
  2. Open People on this claim, choosing Edit if needed.
  3. Choose Add person.
  4. In Person, search by name, company, phone or email. If they are not in CRM yet, type the name and create them right there.
  5. In Roles, pick one or more: Referrer, Adjuster, Day-to-day contact, or a trade role such as Mitigation or Contents.
  6. Add a Note if useful, then choose Add to claim.

Roles that hold one person

Referrer, Adjuster and Day-to-day contact each hold one person per project. Giving one to someone else asks first, for example Change referrer, and the previous person loses it. Other roles can be shared.

What it changes

The project's carrier and referring company follow from the adjuster's and referrer's companies. On the contact's record the project counts under Referred if they are the referrer, or Worked on for other roles.

Who can do it

You need permission to edit project contacts. Salespeople assigned to the project can also add people.

On the phone

The phone shows the people on a project but cannot add them or set the referrer. Do this on the web.
